Birds lose heartbreaker to Modoc 10-9
The birds began a rough stretch of 5 games in 14 days in tough fashion dropping 10-9 decision to Modoc. The birds jumped out early scoring 8 runs in the top of the first inning. Modoc scored 5 to get right back in the game in the 3rd inning. Starter Brent Smerczynski walked the bases loaded then almost got out of the inning scoreless with a 1-2-3 play, but back to back 2out singles and an error gave Modoc their 5 runs and some life. The birds tacked on another run to make in 9-5 in the 5th, but Modoc dropped 5 more in the 6th to walk it off. The birds just couldn’t overcome 7 walks on the night.
Brad Bode and Jeff Whanger led the birds at the plate with 2 hits apiece, while John Menth, Bo Vaculik, Nathan Larmen, Brad Petty and Rob Carroll also added knocks.
The Birds look to jump right back in the win column Monday night at McInninsh when they take on the Royals at 9pm
