Tbirds ride 10-run 5th to stay unbeaten

After being down 4-2 in the 4th inning, your Thunderbirds used a 10-run 5th to stave off the Pelicans 12-7 and stay unbeaten on the season moving to 5-0-2.

Offensively the birds racked up 10 hits on the night. Dustin Harrison, Mark Tiereny and Joe L. had two hits while Rob Carrol, Marc Boggio, Bodie Wilson and Jody Nicewonger each collected one hit apiece.

Brent Smerczynski picked up the win for the Thunderbirds to move to 3-0. The lefty tossed 5 innings giving up 5 runs, 1 earned, walking 4 and striking out 3 on the night. Boggio struck out 2 in his inning of relief to close out the game for the Thunderbirds.

Birds return to action next week against the Orioles for an 845pm contest at Historic Reverchon Park.

Your Thunderbirds had no trouble on offense today, winning big over Modoc 11-1

NTABL Thunderbirds 30+ got on the board in the second inning and scored three runs highlighted by a 2 run Cory single.

The Thunderbirds notched five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was driven by singles by Brent Smerczynski, Rob Carroll, and Billy McDaniel and a triple by Cory.

Billy Coleman earned the win for the Thunderbirds with a dominant performance. Coleman tossed a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six.

The Thunderbirds racked up 13 hits in the game. McDaniel, Cory, Carroll, and Don Massoud all managed multiple hits. Carroll, Cory, and McDaniel each managed three hits to lead Thunderbirds. Others Thunderbirds, collecting hits on the night include Smerczynski and Bodie Wilson.

The win puts the Thunderbirds record at 4-0-2 and they returned to action next week against the Pelicans at 8:45 PM

Your Thunderbirds used a steady barrage of offense and a dominant pitching performance to blank the Dallas Orioles 10-0 Thursday night in Coppell.

Brent Smerczynski earned the win for the birds in a complete game shutout effort. The lefty was almost unhittable on the night, only surrendering one hit while striking out 4. The no-hit bid was broken up with 4 outs remaining on a broken bat single to left.

The offensive charge was led by Jody Nicewonger, who collected 2 hits and 3 runs batted in. Nicewonger opened the scoring with a clutch two out 2-run single in the top of the second and the birds never looked back. The birds collected 13 hits on the night as a whole with Smerczynski, Ryan Karonka, Bodie Wilson, Nicewonger and Marc Boggio each picking up 2 hits. Other T-birds with hits on the night include Rob Carroll, Billy Mcdaniel and John Menth.

Thunderbirds return to action next Thursday for a showdown with Modoc at 6:30pm.

Thunderbirds blank Modoc 12-0

Your Thunderbirds had it all working Thursday night. Stellar pitching, hitting and defense coupled with a slew of Modoc errors led to a 12-0 victory.

Bodie Wilson and Brent Smerczynski combined to toss a 3 hit shutout. Wilson went 3 innings picking up 2 Ks and Smerczynski tossed 4 while also picking up 2 Ks.

Offensively, the birds were led by Rob Carroll who went 3-4 on the night with a single, 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. The Thunderbirds racked up 10 hits on the night with 5 of those being extra-base hits. Abdiel Rivera and Carroll started the night with doubles in the first, Ryan Karonka had a leadoff double in the second, Carroll added another double and Smerczynski closed out the night with a 2-run triple in the sixth. John Menth added a single to the offensive output for the birds.

The 1-0-1 Thunderbirds return to action next week against the Pelicans for a 6:30pm contest at Cowboy Field in Coppell.

Thunderbirds open season with a tie

Your Thunderbirds finally opened the 2023 season Thursday night with a few new faces that each contributed on the mound, at the plate and in the field. Unfortunately, the birds let an early 4-0 lead slip away resulting in a tie against the Orioles.

The Thunderbirds used a trio of pitchers on the night. Brent Smerczynski tossed 2 scoreless innings on 1 hit with 4Ks to start the night. Billy Coleman came on in relief tossing 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 1 K. Marc Boggio closed out the night, tossing the final 3 innings giving up 3 unearned runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3.

The birds got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Don Massoud singled and scored after a groundball by Abdiel Rivera was misplayed by the 2nd baseman and thrown away by the right fielder. Jeremiah West promptly crushed a two run shot to left to make it 3-0. Rob Carroll singled the next inning and moved to 3rd after a failed pickoff attempt. Smerczynski drove him in with a sacrifice fly to deep left to run the score to 4-0.

Boggio was the other Tbird collecting a hit on the night for the birds. They return to action next week and try to get in the win column against defending Champions Modoc.
