Thunderbirds drop Pels 7-4

Your NTX Thunderbirds beat the Oak Cliff Pelicans 7-4 on Thursday leaving them 1 win away from the Championship Series

Brent Smerczynski was the winning pitcher for Thunderbirds improving to 7-1. Smerczynski tossed a complete game, allowing 3 earned runs on 10 scattered hits, walking 1 and striking out an impressive 11 Pelican batters.

Thunderbirds got things moving in the second inning. Rob Carroll hit a solo homer to start the scoring and added 2 more on an RBI single by Matt Allen and a fielder’s choice by Sean House. Thunderbirds put up three runs in the third inning. John Menth, Don Massoud, and Marc Boggio each had RBIs in the frame. Other Thunderbirds collecting hits on the night include Smerczynski and Ryan Karonka and House.

The 12-3-1 T-birds return to play game 2 of the series next Thursday 7/28 at a time and place to still be determined

Thunderbirds drop Roughriders 6-2

Your NTX Thunderbirds wrapped up regular season play last night with a 6-2 win over the Roughriders improving their record to 11-3-1.

The birds used a trio of pitchers to shut down the Roughriders offense. Bodie Wilson got his 4th win of the year tossing four hitless innings while notching 4 Ks. Don Massoud threw a shutout 5th and Dustin Harrison closed the game out pitching the 6th.

The offense was once again led by John Menth who was 3 for 3 and just a HR shy of the cycle with 3 RBIs. Rob Carroll had 2 hits, 2run scored and a stolen base on the night. Other Thunderbirds collecting hits on the night included Brent Smerczynski, Massoud, Ryan Karonka and Matt Allen.

The Thunderbirds look to face the Pelicans next week as the playoffs begin. Time and place have yet to be determined.

Birds fall 9-4 to Modoc

A fast start was quickly erased as the Modoc got the best of the Thunderbirds Thursday night at Oran Good 9-4 on Crazy Uniform night.

The Tbirds jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st. After walks by Cliff Brade and Brent Smerczynski and two quick outs, Don Massoud hit a 2 run single and Marc Boggio followed suit with a run scoring line drive up the middle.

The lead wouldn’t last long as Modoc scored 4 in the bottom half and 3 more in the 2nd. The birds didn’t help themselves committing 3 errors on the night leading to 4 unearned runs. Ron Short started on the mound for the Thunderbirds going 2 innings while give up 4 earned and picking up 3Ks. Smerczynski logged the last 3 innings giving up 1 earned and striking out one.

Boggio and Rob Carroll each had 2 hits on the night with Massoud, Dustin Harrison and Ryan Karonka chipping in with hits as well.

The 10-3-1 Thunderbirds wrap up the regular season next week at Oran Good Park for a 6:30pm contest against the Roughriders.

Congrats to the 2022 NTX Thunderbirds All-Stars. They will be competing on July 24th, 2022 at 1:45pm. The event will be held at Roughriders Field in Frisco, TX

Thunderbirds roll 16-5

John Menth and Rob Carroll were dialed in at the plate on Thursday, tallying four and three hits respectively and leading the NTX Thunderbirds to a 16-5 win over Frisco Roughriders Menth singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and doubled in the fifth while Carroll homered in the first, singled in the second and homered again in the 5th. The birds as a team racked up 16 hits on the night. Menth led the team with 4 hits, Marc Boggio and Carroll each had 3 hits and Brent Smerczynski and Jody Nicewonger each had 2 hits. Other Thunderbirds collecting hits on the night include Cliff Brade and Don Massoud.

Smerczynski pitched the Thunderbirds to victory. The southpaw tossed a complete game allowing seven hits and two earned runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one to improve to 6-1.

The 10-2-1 Thunderbirds return to action next Thursday against Modoc for a 6:30pm contest at Oran Good Park
