Your NTX Thunderbirds used a late inning rally to almost squeak out a W, but settled for a tie against Modoc.

Marc Boggio threw 5 stellar innings, scattering 5 hits and working around 5 walks and a few Thunderbird errors to minimize the damage all night and keep hopes alive for a late inning run. Sean House threw a scoreless 6th to close the night.

Trailing 5-0 heading into the last inning, Cliff Brade worked a walk, Brent Smerczynski reached on an error and Boggio walked to load the bases. Dustin Harrison reached on an error by the third baseman, scoring Brade and keeping the bases loaded. Don Massoud came up and promptly laced a 2 run single to left. After a caught stealing, Rob Carroll smoked a double to left, then moved to third on a wild pitch. Bodie Wilson got to first on a misplayed ball to the first baseman scoring Carroll and tying the game at 5 where it would end after a Ryan Karonka walk and a comebacker to the pitcher to end the comeback.

The 8-2-1 Birds return to action next Thursday against the Pelicans for a 6:30 contest at McInnish #11.

Your NTX Thunderbirds won big over the Frisco Roughriders 11-2 on Thursday.

In the first inning, Thunderbirds got their offense started when Dustin Harrison tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Thunderbirds put up four runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Brent Smerczynski, Marc Boggio, and Harrison, all driving in runs in the frame.

Smerczynski got the win for the Thunderbirds. The southpaw surrendered two unearned runs on three hits over four innings, striking out one and walking zero to improve to 5-1 on the season. Boggio threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen striking out the side in impressive fashion.

The Thunderbirds collected 15 hits on the night. Smerczynski went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the birds, with Harrison, Boggio, Cliff Brade, Don Massoud, and Ron Short each managing multiple hits. Other birds collecting hits on the night include Rob Carroll and Matt Allen.

The birds return to action June 16 at 8:45pm against Modoc at McInnish #11.

Thursday’s game against Modoc was a heartbreaker for NTABL Thunderbirds 35+, as they lost the lead late in a 13-6 defeat.

Despite the loss, NTABL Thunderbirds 35+ did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Modoc had 16 hits on the way to victory.

NTABL Thunderbirds 35+ got things moving in the first inning. Brent Smerczynski hit a solo homer.

Modoc took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning.

NTABL Thunderbirds 35+ scored four runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a home run by Don Massoud, an error on a ball put in play by John Menth, and a double by Dustin Harrison.

Bodie Wilson toed the rubber for NTABL Thunderbirds 35+. The righty lasted four innings, allowing 12 hits and nine runs while striking out five. Smerczynski threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

NTABL Thunderbirds 35+ tallied three home runs on the day. Massoud put one out in the third and fifth innings. Smerczynski went deep in the first inning.

The NTX Thunderbirds continued their winning ways by cruising past the Roughriders 18-2 Thursday night.

Brent Smerczynski picked up the win for the birds to improve to 4-1 on the season by throwing 4 innings and giving up 2 earned runs while striking out 5. Bodies Wilson tossed a scoreless 5th to end the game.

Rob Carroll led the offense going 3 for 3 including a single, double, triple, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Smerczynski, John Menth, Marc Boggio, Wilson, Matt Allen, Ryan Karonka and Jared DeRusha had two hits apiece on the night while Dustin Harrison and Jeff Whanger also added hits for the Tbird offense.

The 7-1 Thunderbirds return to action next Thursday 5/26 for a 6:30pm contest against league-leading and 8-0 Modoc at Oran Good Park.
