Thunderbirds stymied by Orioles, lose 10-2

Your Thunderbirds struggled to get their offense going on Thursday, getting easily dispatched by the Dallas Orioles, 10-2.

The Thunderbirds opened up scoring in the first inning. John Menth singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, followed by an RBI single by Dustin Harrison to make it 2-0, but that would be all they could muster on the night.

The Dallas Orioles got a run back in the 2nd and pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. They later added 2 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th.

Bodie Wilson toed the rubber for the Thunderbirds. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing ten runs on 12 hits and striking out five.

The Thunderbirds tallied seven hits. Mark Tiereny, Menth, and Dustin Harrison each racked up multiple hits for the Thunderbirds with two apiece. Brent Smerczynski got the only other hit on the night.

The loss drops their record to 8-2-2. The birds will try to get back in the win column next week against Modoc at 6:30pm. This will also be the 2nd annual Ugly Uniform Night.

Your Thunderbirds snagged a late lead and defeated Pelicans 7-5 on Thursday. The game was tied at four with the Thunderbirds batting in the bottom of the fifth when Troy McCartney singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The birds earned the victory despite allowing Pelicans to score three runs in the third inning. The Thunderbirds took an early lead in the second inning. Jeff Whanger drove in one on a single to left. In the bottom of the third inning, The Thunderbirds tied things up at four. Dustin Harrison singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Thunderbirds tallied 11 hits on the night. Whanger, John Menth, and Bodie Wilson all managed multiple hits for the birds with Whanger and Wilson also driving in two runs and Menth collecting a double and a triple. Other T-birds collecting hits on the night include Brent Smerczynski and Rob Carroll with doubles and Ryan Karonka with a single.

Bodie Wilson was the winning pitcher for the Thunderbirds. The righthander went seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out three to improve to 2-0

Birds return to action Thursday against the Orioles at 6:30pm at Randall Park.

Your Thunderbirds fell to the Orioles Thursday night in Coppell 6-2

Brent Smerczynski took the loss for the birds on the mound. The left-hander tossed 5 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 5 and walking 3. Smerczynski was hurt by walks to the bottom of the order and well timed flares to right in both scoring innings for the Orioles.

Offensivelly, the Thunderbirds where shut down by the Orioles big righty for most of the game. They fought and scratched for 2 in the 7th inning and actually brought the tying run to the plate but the last ditch effort fell just short. Smerczynski, John Menth, newcomer Troy McCartney and Cliff Brade were the only birds to notch hits on the night.

The loss drops the Thunderbirds record to 7-1-2 and they return to action next week against Modoc.

Birds fly past Pelicans 6-2

Your Thunderbirds took home a 6-2 victory over the Pelicans on Thursday night in Plano behind a strong outing on the mound, solid hitting and running wild on the bases.

Billy Coleman got the start for the birds. The big righty tossed a complete game surrendering two runs on six hits while striking out nine.

the Thunderbirds saw the ball well today with several hard hit balls and racked up five hits in the game. Ryan Karonka and Marc Boggio each had multiple hits each collecting two. John Menth added a triple to round out the offense. Boggio led the team with three stolen bases including a rare steal of home as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

The 7-0-2 Thunderbirds return to action next week against the Orioles.

Thunderbirds beat Modoc 8-1

Your Thunderbirds used a dominant performance on the mound and a steady offensive output en route to an 8-1 win over Modoc Thursday night to move their record to 6-0-2.

Jacob Garcia earned the win for the Thunderbirds in his first start of the season. Garcia tossed 5 strong innings on the mound only surrendering 1 earned run on 5 hits and collecting 10 strikeouts. Marc Boggio tossed a solid 6th to close out the night.

Offensively, the Thunderbirds were led by Rob Carrol, Boggio, John Menth and Corey Steininger who collectively accounted for 8 of the 12 Tbirds hits on the night. Boggio had a single and a double, Carroll had 2 singles, Corey Steininger had a single and a triple and Menth added a single and a long home run to dead center. The birds scored runs in all but one inning on the night. Other Thunderbirds batters picking up hits on the night include Cliff Brade, Brent Smerczynski, Jody Nicewonger and Garcia.

Birds return to action next Thursday for an 845 contest against the Pelicans.
