The Thunderbirds triumphed over the Orioles on Thursday night by a score of 6-2 in Carrolton.
In the opening inning, the Orioles jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Thunderbirds scratched one back in the bottom of the first inning, Joe Lowery’s single led to a run scored on Brent Smerczynski’s double. Jeff Whanger’s 2-out single helped the Thunderbirds level the score at two in the second inning. The Thunderbirds surged ahead again in the third inning after John Menth grounded out. Nick Bird’s double, Rob Carroll’s single, and Corey Steininger’s single each contributed to scoring runs.
Marc Baggio secured the win for the Thunderbirds, delivering an impressive performance by allowing only two runs (one earned) across 5 innings while striking out 9 and walking just two. The Thunderbirds notched 10 hits during the game. Lowry and Steiniger both collected two hits. Carroll, Menth, Steininger, Smerczynski, Whanger, and Bird each drove in a run for the Thunderbirds. Rob Carroll also stole two bases.
The 2-0 Thunderbirds are set to face the Tigers next week at 8:45 PM in Garland.
