Birds lose heartbreaker to Modoc 10-9

The birds began a rough stretch of 5 games in 14 days in tough fashion dropping 10-9 decision to Modoc. The birds jumped out early scoring 8 runs in the top of the first inning. Modoc scored 5 to get right back in the game in the 3rd inning. Starter Brent Smerczynski walked the bases loaded then almost got out of the inning scoreless with a 1-2-3 play, but back to back 2out singles and an error gave Modoc their 5 runs and some life. The birds tacked on another run to make in 9-5 in the 5th, but Modoc dropped 5 more in the 6th to walk it off. The birds just couldn’t overcome 7 walks on the night.
Brad Bode and Jeff Whanger led the birds at the plate with 2 hits apiece, while John Menth, Bo Vaculik, Nathan Larmen, Brad Petty and Rob Carroll also added knocks.

The Birds look to jump right back in the win column Monday night at McInninsh when they take on the Royals at 9pm

Thunderbirds knock off Royals

The persistent T-bird offense stayed aggressive Thursday night downing the Royals 7-3. Line drives were hit all over the place the first 4 innings, but right at the Royal defenders. The birds scratched across a run in the 5th, 3 in the 6th and slammed the door shut with 3 in the 7th moving to 8-1 on the year and staying atop the league standings.

Brent Smerczynski picked up his 6th win of the year going 5 2/3 innings with 3 unearned runs and 5 Ks. Bodie Wilson earned his 2nd save of the year in dominant fashion striking out 3 of the 4 outs he recorded.

At the plate John Menth led the team with another stellar performance going 2-4 with a double, 2 RBIs a run scored while the other 2 outs were line drives right at the left fielder. Smerczynski, Bo Vaculik and Jeff Whanger added doubles on the night while Wilson was on base 4 times with a single, 2 walks and a HBP. Other T-birds collecting hits include Jody Nicewonger, Nathan Larmen, Brad Petty and MacLane Hansen.

Thunderbirds return to action this Thursday 7/18 at First Baptist for a rematch with Modoc.

Thunderbirds and Cards battled for 7 innings and ended up with a scoreless tie. Both teams had chances to scratch across a run , but a repeated buckle down effort on the mound by Bodie Wilson and solid infield play thwarted any Cardinal chances.

Offense was the name of the game Thursday night as your Thunderbirds erupted for 16 runs and 16 hits to improve their record to 6-0.

Brent Smerczynski got the “W” on the mound going the first four innings and improving to 5-0. Smerczynski was perfect the first 3 2/3 innings retiring the first 11 batters he faced, but ended the night surrendering 3 hits, 2 earned runs and 2 K’s . John Menth came in and cleaned up the last 2 innings collecting an impressive 5 Ks.

As far as the offense goes, the birds had 4 players collect 3 hits apiece on the night and batted through the lineup in each of the first 3 innings. Smerczynski was 3-4 with a walk,single, double, triple, 3 runs batted in and 4 runs scored. Menth added 2 singles, a double, 2 rbis and 2 runs scored. Chris Crombar and McLane Hansen also had 3 hits on the night too with each scoring a run and Crombar adding 3 rbis. Other t-birds with hits on the night included Bo Vaculik, Bodie Wilson (3 walks and 4 runs scored), Nathan Larmon and Brad Petty.

The Thunderbirds start a tough stretch of games with 4 of the next 5 against Modoc and the Cardinals.

Birds clip Dodgers 5-1

The birds won a tough battle against the Dodgers Thursday night at First Baptist 5-1.

Bodie Wilson battled all night, making tough pitches when they mattered most culminating in a CG win. Wilson finished the night only surrendering 1 run on the night while tallying 4 Ks.

At the plate, the birds managed 7 hits on the night. Brent Smerczynski had 2 hits, while Brad Bode picked up another RBI double on the season. Wilson, Bo Vaculik, Jody Nicewonger and Brad Petty all collected hits on the night as well.as well.
