In front of a record-breaking crowd, your Thunderbirds stayed hot Thursday night by blanking the Spirits 11-0 and remaining undefeated on the year at 4-0. The birds put their foot on the gas in the 2nd inning by scoring 8 runs and effectively ended any chance of a Spirit win before it got started. Brian Synatzske and Brad Bode led the team at the plate on the night. Snots had 3 hits, an RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base while Bode had 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 4 runs driven in on the night. Brent Smerczynski, Nathan Larmon and Jody Nicewonger also chipped in with 2 hits each.

Smerczynski stayed unbeaten on the mound with his 2nd CG shutout of the year improving his record to 4-0. He scattered six hits on the night and had the luxury of a solid defense behind him that snagged 5 popups and turned 2 double plays while narrowly missing turning a third.

Other Thunderbirds collecting hits on the night include Bo Vaculik, Justin Toona and McLane Hansen.

The birds return to action 5/30 against the Dodgers at First Baptist

There was a fight at the bat rack Thursday night in South Dallas as the Thunderbirds blitzed the Royals 16-4 and stayed undefeated thus far in 2019.
It was a balanced attack from top to bottom of the lineup as the birds scored in 4 of the 6 innings, and every player either got a hit, scored or drove in a run.
The offense was led at the plate by John Menth and Justin Toona. Menth was 2-4 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBIs while Toona notched 2 hits, 2 runs scored and a run driven in. Brian Synatzske, Brad Bode, Ron Short, Jody Nicewonger, Jeff Whanger, McLane Hansen and Brad Petty also chipped in with hits on the night.
Brent Smerczynski picked up the win on the night by tossing his 2nd straight complete game while collecting 7 more strikeouts. The win moves Smerczynski’s record to 3-0 with a sub 1 ERA and 25 Ks on the young year.

Dem Birds are back in action Thursday night with a rematch against the Spirits who will be looking to get revenge for an opening night loss.

The Thunderbirds outmanned the Knights Monday night at McInnish to up their record to 2-0. It was an equal balance of hitting and pitching and defense that led to the “W” for the birds.

Jody Nicewonger and Bo Vaculik led the attack at the plate tallying 2 hits apiece on the night. Ron Short and Bodie Wilson added extra basehits with a double and RBI triple respectively while Brian Synatzske, Brent Smerczynski, John Menth and Justin Toona each chipped in with hits as well on the night.

On the mound, Smerczynski picked up the W with a dominating complete game effort. The Knights weren’t able to get anything going offensively as Smerczynski only gave up 3 hits while racking up 13 Ks on the night.

The Thunderbirds kicked off the 2019 season in a great way Thursday night beating the Spirits 8-5. The “W” was a team effort at the plate and on the mound as 8 different birds each collected hits. Brent Smerczynski, Brad Bode and Ron Short had doubles, while Brian Synatzske, Bodie Wilson, Fabian Mendive and Jody Nicewonger added hits as well. Smerczynski and Wilson shared duties on the mound. Newcomers John Menth, Bo Vaculik and Mac Henson held down the defense with Menth making a spectacular running catch in the gap to thwart a late Spirit rally.

The 2019 season kicks off April 4, 2019. There are new faces, old faces, and bearded faces looking to continue to climb the ranks in the NTABL Veterans Division. Come out and support North Texas’ favorite Modelo-drinking squad as they embark on another campaign.
